Khuzdul is the language of the Dwarves in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and other books set in Middle-earth.
For these Neo-khuzdul lessons both the original Tolkien material,
David Salo’s Neo-Khuzdul and Khuzdul used in Turbines LoTRO have been used.
These lessons are a tool for LoTRO dwarven RP-ers,
to expand on the little known existing Khuzdul lexicon
.
The goal of these lessons and tools is to make available a fully usable language,
as fleshed out as Tolkien’s Elvish languages,
but capturing the flavor and intentions behind Khuzdul as accurately as possible,
to serve the large dwarven communities of LoTRO.
This is a fan tribute to the genius that was J.R.R. Tolkien.
This work is an interpretation of Tolkien’s work and any Khuzdul related material,
all rights are reserved for their proper owners.
In the creation of these lessons and tools I wish to thank anyone who has ever contributed to the Khuzdul lexicon, without those this would not be possible.

thank you sooo much for your work. I really enjoying it. I’d really love to have a closer look, I’m studying linguistics partially inspirated by Tolkien. I’m very much interested in the original sources to rummage a bit. Could you give me advice ?

As Tolkien wrote little Khuzdul the main sources tend to be either D.Salo, or the radicals used in other Semitic languages (mainly other Tolkien Semitic languages such as Valarin and Adunaíc, but also real languages such as Akkadian and Hebrew are very important). It’s difficult to list all these sources individually, but if you have specific questions about parts of the vocabulary do not hesitate to get in touch: kstrongbeard [at] aol [dot] com – happy to help.

Obviously the next series will be much longer. But… Is the Cirth that different from the original Futhar runes? I cant realy believe the Cirth has that different English letters for the same runes. (I think of the elder one… Doesnt learned the younger yet)

I think this is absolutely lovely! I havent read through all documents or watched all video lessions yet, but of corse I will surely get around to it. I am just curious on a few words… may I ask you? Is there any word for lover? Maybe husband, wife? How about brother and sister… maybe other family members?

I have a question. I know the -ul suffix means “son of.” What is used to indicate “daughter of?”

Thank you. The -ul suffix is used to indicate a relationship or origins, or something that has as is defining characteristic x. For instance: Khuzd-ul, meaning Dwarv-ish. Or Fundin-ul, literally meaning “(offspring) of Fundin”. As a patronymic suffix it thus also could be used as an indicator of lineage for daughters.

i need some help. in a larp i participate in im a dwarven cleric and i need a healing prayer and would like to make it in khuzdul. can any one help? im not familiar with the language enough to try it solo.

Not sure a “prayer” would be fitting (as Dwarves don’t really have any religion). Yet, I suppose they could call on Mahal for strength, in that case my suggestion would be : “mah-ibsit, udu id-ablâk Mahalu zasabsati” (“heal!, from the might of Aulë you will become healed”). Just a suggestion off course. 🙂

This is amazing!! Like a few of the other commenters, I studying linguistics by the inspiration of Tolkien. I’m hoping to add a little Dwarvish to my language repertoire so as to be able to use it when LARP’ing Fili. Thanks so much for all you do, and I hope to see more in the future! 😀

The third lesson will appear as soon as it is completed. Recent changes in grammar and vocabulary meant the lesson had to be redone somewhat.
There is no set date at present when lesson three will be released, but hopefully very soon.
If ever I would require any Polish translations I will be sure to contact you master Mjothar. 🙂
